They are two of the most privileged kids on TV – born into wealth, spoilt, and living off a trust fund. MJ and Noluntu have carved out new territory in Generations, with a screen mom who just keeps signing the cheques without a financial care in the world.

As the saying goes, they were born with a silver spoon in their mouths. But for Anga Makubalo and Zenande Mfenyana, the actors behind these characters, it’s a far cry from their upbringing which couldn’t have been more different – and they don’t have mothers like screen mom Mawande, who keeps dishing out money.

“I’m not a silver-spoon kid either,” Zenande interjects. “I didn’t matriculate and get a car as a reward. I used to catch taxis to go to auditions, sometimes not knowing where the next money would come from.

My parents instilled in me the idea that money doesn’t grow on trees.”
