February is the month of love and few can escape Cupid’s arrow. Even Mzansi’s favourite soapie, Generations, is experiencing it with their hottest and latest couple, Dineo Mashaba and Phenyo Mazibuko, who got off to a promising start by meeting on Valentine’s Day.
DRUM caught up with actors Katlego Danke and Melusi Yeni to get their take on their characters’ budding new romance and their explosive chemistry that has been steaming up our screens.
As usual Katlego (33) looks every inch the glamorous lady in her skinny black jeans, dark top and red high heels, but today there’s a mischievous sparkle in her eye and it’s easy to see that it’s her co-star, Melusi, who’s put it there.
Shaking her head at Melusi, Katlego grins naughtily. “They always stick me with the crazies. He’s the biggest joker ever and once again it’s just my luck to get stuck with someone like that.
“I always get the practical jokers who love teasing me – first there was Seputla Sebogodi (Kenneth Mashaba), then came Rantebeng Makapan (Thomas Mashaba) and lastly Siyabonga Twala (Paul Mashaba). They were all such jokers and now I’ve got the craziest one of them all.”
Showing that he doesn’t take her words to heart, the well-built and charming Melusi just smiles broadly. Despite their teasing and occasional name-calling, the bond between the two is plain to see and they certainly make a cute couple!
Getting slightly more serious, Katlego adds, “I’m just happy for Dineo to be branching out from the Mashaba family. I’m glad that there’s someone new, really new for her – she’s not just going for Kenneth’s son or brother.
“I’m loving her storyline right now as it’s taking Dineo in a new direction and I’ve got the opportunity to explore new dimensions of her character. She’s not just Kenneth’s trophy wife any more – now she’s doing things on her own terms.
