The close-fitting choker necklace is back
As displayed by vintage fashion junkie Nomuzi Mabena and TV personalities Pearl Modiade and Bonang Mathebe, amongst others, the choker necklace is enjoying a comeback.
The choker necklace has a long history and is made from different types of materials such as plastic, velvet, leather and metals.
The National Jeweler explains that chocker necklace dates back to the Summer Empire in Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt. The Princess of Wales made chokers popular in the late 1800’s while ballerinas wore chokers in the 19th century before they hit the fashion runways.
In the 1990’s Goth girls brought them back into fashion and in recent years singers like Britney Spears and Rihanna have been spotted with the fashion item.
