The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) believes storms such tropical cyclone ex Dineo are a reminder of the ANC’s failure to provide adequate housing for poor South Africans.

In a statement released on Thursday, the EFF said the ANC has condemned the poor to these storms.

“Each time there is a storm, it must remind us all of the failure of the ruling party to secure dignified houses for the poor in villages and townships,” said Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, EFF spokesperson.

“That they [the poor] still live in shacks 22 years after democracy means the ANC has condemned them to storms such as Dineo.”

The EFF urged South Africans living in KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo to not let down their guard.

“We urge the people of KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo to be vigilant at all times as the tragedy of nature is not always predictable.”

The EFF said the South African Natural Disaster Centre and the Rescue South Africa, said people should not be naive and unsuspecting either.

“The safety of the people of South Africa, more so those who are underprivileged in the areas expected to be experiencing the depression, depend solely on the service of the government for safety and protection,” he adds.

“May the community of KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo prioritise the safety and protection of children the most and be cognisant of the fact that as a people, we are responsible for one another.”
