Two teenagers escape human traffickers after being forced into prostitution

Two minors, aged 15 and 16, successfully escaped a human trafficking ring and reported the matter to the police on Tuesday, this week.

In January, the two minors were lured into visiting their friend in Potsmasburg, and traveled from Kimberly in the Northern Cape.

When they arrived in Potsmasburg they were forced into prostitution by night, and were locked up during the day.

According to the Directorate of Priority Crimes Investigation (Hawks), the two men arrested were Austine Okoye (37) and Angel Vigillance Williams (26) who appeared before the Danielskuil Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, on charges of Human Trafficking.

Okoye was arrested on 12 February for a separate and unrelated matter and it said that his arrest contributed to the minors’ successful escape from Williams, who was arrested at a later stage.

After reporting the incident to the police, the two minors were taken to a place of safety at an undisclosed location.

The perpetrators are expected to appear in court for a bail application next week Thursday and remain in police custody.
